The Research Lab of Advanced, Composite, Nano Materials & Nanotechnology (R-NanoLab) was established in 2007. It is situated at the School of Chemical Engineering (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). R-nano deals with the Design, Production and Characterization of Advanced, Composite and Nano-materials.
The main activity of the RNanoLab includes the synthesis of nanomaterials, polymeric spheres, fabrication of composite materials, development of advanced anti-corrosion coating systems, electrochemical characterization, determination of mechanical properties (nano-macro scale), development of surface coating technologies on fibers or polymers with metal coatings, additive manufacturing and yarn production. For all materials and processes that take place in the laboratory, complete equipment is available for the characterization and requested experiments, a fact that enables the laboratory to provide services and cooperation with third parties.
In the scope of EuReComp project, RNanoLab besides the coordination of the project will also handle the recycled carbon fibers, either via electropolymerization or by applying sizing on their surface. Furthermore, solvolysis wastes will be used as precursors in a chemical vapor deposition reactor for the production of nanomaterials. Filament extrusion with recycled fibers will also be utilized, in order to support the production of the demonstrator cases of the project.
